East Shore Viewpoint Trail (and Picnic Bay Rec Site access)

The entrance for the East Shore Trail trailhead is located 3km up Pilot Point FSR (1/2 km before Trail Hub and Boomers Landing). The Trail descends through two small segments to an old forestry road before delivering you to the main trail. A short yet stiff uphill delivers you to a cross country style multi use trail which offers views of of Crawford Bay and Gray Creek. The trail also features numerous forest ponds and interesting rock outcroppings. After 1750 m you reach the Picnic Bay junction. The trail descends 1.2km to a RSTBC campsite. Continuing south from the junction another 1700m you will be rewarded with one of the most spectacular viewpoints in our whole network. From here you can see 50km down the lake, and deep into the Purcell mountains. Mostly a moderate MTB ride with technical climbing sections. This is an in out trail so stay alert to other trail users.

In recent history there was an option to continue south from the viewpoint to the East West Trail and loop back to Upper Levels, however, due to land use changes we no longer advise this using this route unless you know the landowner or have an emergency.
